3D previz allows filmmakers to explore and experiment with different camera angles

and lighting setups before actual shooting begins.

By creating a digital representation of the scene, directors and cinematographers can precisely determine how elements within the frame will interact and how the visual composition will unfold.

 

Pre-visualization helps in identifying potential issues and making informed decisions, ensuring that the final shoot aligns with the creative vision. Additionally, it aids in efficient resource management and clear communication between departments.

Lighting setup and behind the scenes

For this scene I modified a "Cigar Room" environment provided by Hane Studio. For key light to come from the right side of the frame, two more windows were cut on the right wall and one front window was blocked. Some furniture and props were added and redistributed around the room. Custom window blinds UE Blueprint with adjustable angle wooden planks to control the light was used.

You can see the lighting setup outside the room with a lot of cutters to control the light spill

due to the nature of UE render.

Pre-visualisation project may involve:

• Modelling 3D environments in Blender or importing from online libraries.

• Unwrapping with UV and Texel Density tools.

• Export to Unreal Engine 5. Using Quixel Bridge textures and Megascans library on imported assets.

• Using UE Metahuman creator

• Scene compositing in UE

• Camera movements animation in UE

• Lighting using real fixture .ies profile, physical dimensions and lumen output
